Four years ago I left the United States to return to university and begin my theological education. After graduating with a degree in Theology/Culture last week, I began filming "The Holy House" a documentary by Rev. Mary Fontaine of Hummingbird Ministries.
The Rev. Fontaine is a Cree woman, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Canada and a minister. Mary will be ascending to her newly appointed post this coming June and our filming begins at that time. For many in the community her upcoming post as leader of a church that once had eleven residential schools is not just a sign of justice but an action of true reconciliation within the church.
This reconciliation is further emphasized in Mary's documentary, which explores both her personal faith journey through the lens of elders within First Nations communities all over Canada. When I arrived in Canada all those years ago I had no idea that my media skills would be of use, but as I'm learning the Creator sometimes has other plans, but always moves us where we need to go. This will be an exquisite and rare opportunity for me, for our church and for the nation.
The adventure begins.
